Case of Zika virus reported in eastern Tennessee
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Department of Health announced they have received confirmation one person has tested positive for the Zika virus.
According to the Department, the person had just recently traveled to South America before returning home to East Tennessee, WREG reports.
“We have been expecting an imported case of Zika virus disease and we believe more infections are likely as people travel to and from areas where the disease is currently being transmitted,” said TDH Commissioner John Dreyzehner, MD, MPH.
They went on to say while they understand it can be scary, especially considering the virus has been linked to birth defects, it is preventable.
