BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, just after 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, a man was arrested for a DUI while wearing a clown costume.

Authorities say that deputy on patrol was flagged down by another motorist and told that a red Ford SUV was driving erratically.  The deputy later observed an SUV crossing into the oncoming lane and back and conducted a traffic stop.

Joel Allan Sloan, 51, of Fultondale was dressed as a clown and told the deputy that he had just had a few drinks at a local restaurant.  No explanation was given for the costume.

The Sheriff’s Office said that it was discovered Sloan had an outstanding felony warrant for Theft of Property 1st degree.  Sloan was arrested and charged with DUI and the outstanding warrant.

Sloan remains in the Jefferson County Jail with bond set at $2,500.
