MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) - Last Wednesday, the Sanfratello and Shelt families were changed forever. A massive fire destroyed everything they owned. Now the family is on the road to recovery, thanks to the kindness of friends, family, and complete strangers.
Her husband, Samuel Jones, suffered third degree burns while trying to fight the fire and rescue everyone out of the home. "When my fire extinguisher ran out, we got everybody out of the house, I had already been burned and didn’t really care, the adrenalin level was so high, I didn’t notice it," he told us.
They're now living out of a motel room. Literally everything they now own has been donated. The only thing the family salvaged was Carole's wallet, containing priceless photos and memorabilia. Carole says the family has gotten furniture, basic appliances, food, and clothing given to them, but they still need a lot of help. "We're looking at mobile homes, houses for rent because I don't know how we're going to stay in the motel room," she says. "We're paid through Friday."
Friends have set up a fund for the family at all Huntsville area Wells Fargo branches.
If you're looking to donate items to the family, you can drop them off at the Kangaroo Express on Highway 72, the A1 Fast Lube in Hazel Green, and Lap Dog Towing in Huntsville. Carole says she especially needs items like bandages for her husband Sam, food, clothing, and essentials. Everything that they can't use will be donated to other families in need through various charities.
