GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - Mayor Leigh Dollar recently announced the plans for the third phase of a project on Sunset Drive - a lakefront promenade and splash pad.

“It is adjacent to Every Child’s Playground, that was phase 1, and the Ladies Civitans started this project many, many years ago, and they have plans to add phase 2, which is part of the play ground, and phase three is part of the splash pad," says Dollar.

The city is partnering with the Ladies Civitan Club, Chamber of Commerce, and Foundation for Marshall Medical Centers. City officials also hope to partner with other organizations, and the public to raise the funds for the new additions.

"It won’t just be a typical splash pad. Our goal is that it’s a really nice promenade area. We really highlight the lake, and it’s something that you will literally want to stay all day," adds Dollar.

The splash pad and park is just a part of the improvement and beautification efforts slated for the near future.

The city also hopes to refurbish meeting rooms in the rec center, begin a new landscaping project to add more flower baskets citywide, and begin the planning stage for a baseball and soccer complex to name a few.

"We hope it’ll certainly add to the quality of life for all of our residents, and anyone else, visitors alike to offer a very good quality of life for a small town," says Dollar.

Mayor Dollar hopes for the splash pad and park to be completed by summer 2017, pending proper funding.
