Free tax preparation underway in Marshall County, for any income, any age
GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — It’s tax season, and if you need help preparing your filings, a non-profit group in Marshall County has gone through extensive certification and is ready to do it for free.
“It’s our first day to do taxes for tax year 2015,” explains site coordinator Larry Garrett. Garrett is overseeing a location at the Guntersville Rec Center. That is one of the numerous locations across the county that will do your tax preparations for free.
“We’ll take anybody who walks through our door over here,” Garrett says.
Put on by Marshall County RSVP, the volunteers will help all taxpayers, any age, no matter the income. “We have locations in Guntersville, Arab, Albertville, Boaz, and Scottsboro,” explains Garrett.
Those sites all have varied hours and dates they are open each week. “A couple of sites will be open a little later, but for Guntersville, April 12 will be the cutoff,” said Garrett.
Each volunteer has to go through an extensive training course every year, pass it, and become certified. “You’re not going to come into the site or work at the site until you’re actually certified,” says Garrett.
People from across the Tennessee Valley are welcome and there are not any appointments necessary for the various locations.
You will need to bring several documents with you.
