1 child killed, 6 hurt in crash on Highway 231 in Morgan County

MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – Alabama State Troopers say they are investigating a single vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 231 at Bell Point Road, less than a mile south of Lacey’s Spring.

The crash happened at 4:35 p.m. Wednesday.  Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn says there were seven people inside the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Two children were thrown from the car, one of whom was killed. Six people were rushed to the hospital. The extent of their injuries is not yet known.

Alabama State Troopers identified the child who died as Jose Luiz Pineda, age 6. Troopers say the child was not restrained.

The crash happened on Wednesday evening. One lane of Highway 231 northbound was closed for a few hours for purposes of investigation and cleanup.
