HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - There were smiles all around as The Rock Family Worship Center Pastor Rusty Nelson watched love in action at Manna House on Saturday.

"We have a phrase we use at the Rock, 'to be a community, within a community to change a community,'" Nelson said.

Dozens of hands dumped, packed and stacked 120,000 meals for people within our neighborhoods.

"It feels wonderful to be able to have this many folks helping today from the Rock Family Worship Center, they joined together with the Huntsville Dream Center and Manna House, we're partnering with Meals of Hope," Huntsville Dream Center Director Chris Mitchell said.

Meals of Hope has served more than 30 million meals since they formed seven years ago. Meals of Hope Program Director Steve Boyett said 99 percent of those meals stay within the community where they are packed. Boyett also added the meals could also boast a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

"Everyone likes macaroni and cheese, from kids to grandparents, so it encompasses a generational need," Boyett said.

The servings do more than merely satisfy taste buds.

"They have 21 vitamins, they have a patented cheese product that has vitamins and minerals in it," Boyett explained. "So, they're not just getting comfort food, they're getting nutritious comfort food."

As the volunteers filled the bags, they sealed them with a little something extra.

"We pray that this is an expression of love from the Rock," Nelson said.

Boyett said each of the food pouches costs a quarter. Saturday's outreach event cost around $30,000 to cover the cost of all of the meals.
