Scale back Alabama begins today. It’s a free statewide weight-loss program designed to encourage Alabamians to get healthy and have fun while doing it.

This is the 10-year anniversary and the group is trying to break a Guinness World Record.

A news conference will be held in Montgomery Friday at 7:30 a.m. to kick off the event. Participants will gather to weigh in individually, then everybody will stand on the scale to attempt the Guinness World Record for most people on one scale.

  • Weigh-in week for those not able to attend today’s conference is January 25-31
  • ¬†Weigh-out week will be April 11 thru the 17
  • The final event will be April 29

The 10-week statewide weight loss campaign is an effort to combat Alabama’s high obesity rate. Since its inception in 2007, participants have lost more than a million pounds. Prizes are available for team members and individuals losing at least 10 pounds during the 10-week challenge.

For the 10 year anniversary– Scale Back Alabama is offering a free mobile app to track your activity and weight loss.
