HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - A lot of our WHNT News 19 viewers have been asking about Brody Simpson, the youngest son of chief meteorologist Jason Simpson and his wife Lacey. Thousands of you keep up to date on his progress through Jason's tweets and Facebook posts. We've all been following Brody's story since he came into the world four weeks early last May. We recently stopped by for a visit to the Simpson home.

Brody was in his bouncy seat and smiling from ear to ear.  He’s the reason everyone's jumping for joy this holiday season at the Simpson house. Brody's now a little more than seven and a half months old. Looking at him, Brody’s mom said, “He’s been through a lot though. We’ve all been through a lot.”

When Brody was born May 8th, he had some pretty severe health problems. One required heart surgery when he was only a couple of days old. But after a total of six surgeries, three of them major, his dad Jason said, “To look at him, you wouldn’t know there's a thing in the world wrong with him. He has been through a lot and each time he has come through it.”

For the Simpsons, 2015 has been quite a year. Jason told us, “The last surgery he had was a little bit rough because he’s getting older. He likes to move and it was kind of painful on him so it took him a little longer to recover from the last one but he’s doing great now and we're looking at a healthy Christmas and just thankful we've got him.”

Jason and Lacey agree -- they couldn’t ask for a better Christmas gift this year. In fact, it may be the best present they’ve ever gotten. “We can finally take that deep breath that we’ve been needing for so long,” Lacey said. “And yeah, we’re excited about the new year and saying goodbye to this one and starting a new one and having him be healthy and strong. It’s wonderful. “

An ornament hangs on their tree. It’s the word “Believe” covered in red glitter. It says a lot about the family journey they’ve been on in 2015. “In a year like this where you’ve been in the fire so much, there’s this need to try to block it all out,” Jason said. “But if you do that, you forget about all the blessings that you got along the way.”

It has been a journey of prayer and faith to get their little man where he is today. “It’s just good to be home and good to be settling back in and getting this little guy healthy again so we’re very blessed,” Jason said. That includes spending as much time as they can with their other two kids, Walt and Shelby who missed out on a lot of family time while Brody was in the hospital.

“The good thing is that we have a Brody and he’s here and laughing and playing we have an opportunity to start our new normal and hopefully get him to sleep through the night. But you know, that’ll come,” Lacey said with a smile on her face. Jason laughed and said, “That’s what she’s asking for for Christmas, a good night’s sleep.”

Jason and Lacey say they can't thank our viewers enough for the support and prayers for Brody and their family the past seven months. The good news is Brody's major surgeries are over for now. He still has some follow-up visits to take care of things down the road. We'll keep you up to date on how he's doing.
