OWENS CROSS ROADS, Ala. – Huntsville Police have identified the man who died after being hit by an 18-wheeler late Thursday night.  It happened near the intersection of Highway 431 and Taylor Lane.

Police say a pedestrian, 70-year-old Chester Beachum of Huntsville, was reportedly trying to cross Highway 431 at 9:50 p.m. when the tractor-trailer hit him.  Beachum died on the scene.

The northbound lanes of Hwy 431 were closed for more than three hours while crews determined what happened.

Huntsville Police say the accident is still under investigation. At this time, no charges have been filed against the driver of the 18-wheeler.
