City and County offices across the Tennessee Valley are closed for Christmas and/or New Years Day. This includes the sanitation department. So many have released an alternate schedule for garbage and recycling pickup for the week of Christmas.

Madison County:

The Garbage and Recycling services will not be affected by the holidays.

Trash service will run as follows:

Monday – Completely run Monday and get into Tuesday (1/4 of it).
Tuesday – Double back over areas already picked up Monday, complete Tuesday, move into Wednesday (1/2 of it)
Wednesday – Double back over the ½ we already serviced and complete the rest of Tuesday and move into Thursday (3/4 of it)
Thursday – Thursday will almost be completely done and we will run through it again and then completely run Friday.

Good information to know about recycling that holiday debris:

What to do with holiday decorations and gift wrap may present a challenge. Is wrapping paper recyclable? What about Christmas tree ornaments? Tinsel?

To answers those questions, Republic Services with the city of Madison has its own “naughty and nice” list of recyclable holiday materials.

Nice (Recyclable) Naughty (Not Recyclable)
Gift Boxes Buble Wrap(Consider Reusing)
Tissue Paper Wrapping Paper(Consider Reusing)
Shoe Boxes Ribbons and Bows(Consider Reusing)
Holiday Cards Anything on the tree
Gift Boxes Sticky Gift Labels
Foam peanuts and coated and laminated bags(Consider Reusing)

Wrapping paper, while it contains paper, cannot be recycled because it is often dyed and laminated and may contain non-paper additives, such as gold and silver coloring, glitter, and plastics. Ribbons and bows cannot be recycled because they aren’t paper products.
