Tinsel Trail adding solar charging benches this year
Huntsville, Ala. (WHNT) – Tinsel Trail adds a lot of light to Downtown Huntsville every holiday season. This year there will be some added energy efficiency to the festivities with a solar bench and charging station. Tinsel Trail organizers issued this press release with the details:
Tinsel Trail, Downtown Huntsville’s free display of Christmas trees, is adding more sustainable features to Big Spring Park beginning November 27th, 2015. The solar bench and charging station is provided by the Alabama Center for Sustainable Energy and Sun Charge Systems. The benches are manufactured in Alabama by Sun Charge Systems and event organizers are hopeful to keep one in the heart of the Rocket City.
“For us the solar bench and charging station provides a hands-on way to see how sustainable energy works.” says Daniel Tait, CEO of the Alabama Center for Sustainable Energy. “There isn’t a better opportunity to show solar in Huntsville than Tinsel Trail.”
The Alabama Center for Sustainable Energy will be accepting donations onsite to keep the solar bench and charging station at Big Spring Park beyond Tinsel Trail.
“This is an incredible asset for Downtown Huntsville but we’d like to make it a permanent fixture.” says Daniel Tait. “If everyone that visits Tinsel Trail gives just some loose pocket change it could stay.”
To see the Old Town Charging Station in action, visit Tinsel Trail in Downtown Huntsville between November 27th, 2015 and January 2nd, 2016.
