HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - For Life Ministries hosted a community-wide shopping event on Monday to raise money for orphans. They advocate for the abandoned through two ministries, Love One Madison County and Love One Haiti.

"We have had our hearts tugged, truly, by the great need," founder Leann Newsom said. "Our heart is just to speak out on their behalf to say,'There's a crisis, there's 147 million children just orphans across the world."

It's overwhelming to think there's 147 million lives looking for a loving family, but Haitian Orphanage founder Lorphine St Louis said it's important to start small.

"I know it takes one," St Louis said.

Loving one, that's the heartbeat of For Life Ministries.

"Jesus's model for us, very specifically, is that we are to invest in one life at a time," Newsom said.

Through the purchases made at the event, 10% of the day's profits benefited children near and far.

"That will go a long way for the kids for their education, for paying staff and for the meals and for the medical care," St Louis explained.
