Skating in the Park returns to Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - Get ready to lace up your skates! The fourth annual Skating in the Park event is coming back to the Rocket City.

The ice rink will officially open on Friday, November 20th at 4:00 p.m. It will run through January 4, 2016.

The rink will be located directly behind the Huntsville Museum of Art in Downtown Huntsville.

It will stay open seven days a week, that includes holidays. Concessions and outdoor restrooms will also be available on site.

There are a few special skate events planned that include Skating Nights with the Huntsville Charges and Havoc.

Rink Hours: 

  • Monday through Thursday 4:00-10:00 p.m.
  •  Friday 4:00 p.m. until midnight
  •  Saturday 10:00 a.m. until midnight
  • Sunday noon until 8:00 p.m.

There will be extended hours during the Thanksgiving holiday and during the area schools' Christmas break. The rink will be open from 10:00am until 10:00 p.m. on November 23-26. Also, on Black Friday (Nov. 27) as well as Saturday, Nov. 28, the rink will be open from 10:00 a.m. until midnight. You can also spend Christmas and New Year's Day out on the ice from 2:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the Huntsville Museum of Art and Redstone Federal credit Union.

Admission: 

  • $10 per person ages 9 and up,
  • $5 for ages 8 and under
  • $8 per person for groups of 10 or more.

You can also rent skates for $3 and scooters for $5.
