HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - Energy Huntsville hosted its first summit this week.

Around 300 people attended the opening day at the US Space and Rocket Center's Davidson Center.

Energy Huntsville launched four years ago. One of the organization's missions is to help the area's technology base grow its business in the energy sector.

Board Chairman Jay Newkirk says the summit furthers that goal by bringing together government and commercial agencies.

"So we've got both consumers gaining from it all and small companies growing in the sector," Newkirk said, adding, "we're supporting the Army and Navy and other organizations in the DOE and furthering this whole objective we have."

The summit continues Wednesday.
