Decatur Police arrest alleged gunman in Saturday morning shooting at Decatur bakery

UPDATE: Roger Stevens was arrested after a standoff with multiple law enforcement agencies in a truck lot off of Greenbrier Road. You can find more on that standoff here.

DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) – Decatur Police are investigating a shooting that happened at the Corner Bakery located at the intersection of 8th Street and Somerville Road. They said it happened at 9:43 a.m. on Saturday.

Officers said 62-year-old Kay Letson Stevens was flown to Huntsville Hospital after being treated for multiple gunshot wounds at the Decatur Morgan Hospital.

UPDATE: Investigators say she later passed away from her injuries.

During the investigation, officers said Roger Stevens, the man Kay Stevens recently divorced, was waiting for her to arrive at the bakery when he approached her with a pistol. Police said Stevens shot the woman multiple times and fled the scene before police could arrive.

Decatur Police spent much of the morning searching for Roger Dale Stevens. They say he was located in a truck lot on Greenbrier Road, leading to a standoff that lasted over an hour and ended in his arrest.
