ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. – An Attalla woman is charged with chemical endangerment of a child.  Sheriff Todd Entrekin says Crystal Dawn Nelson, 33, knew she was pregnant and admitted to using methamphetamine the day before her baby’s birth.

She also admitted to taking Roxicodone the day the baby was born, the Sheriff said.

“[Nelson] was arrested and charged with chemical endangerment of exposing a child to an environment in which controlled substances are ingested, produced or distributed, which is a felony,” investigator Brandi Fuller said.

Nelson tested positive for benzodiazepines, opiates and amphetamine. Her newborn baby also tested positive for the same drugs.

Nelson is being held in the Etowah County Detention Center on $10,000 bond. She also has two probation revocation warrants without bonds.
