MADISON, Ala. -Bus drivers for Madison City Schools “go the extra mile” to ensure the safety of their students. Their duties extend beyond transportation for the school day to field trips, athletic events and other school functions as well.

While the school system is celebrating School Bus Safety Week, leaders are also looking to hire new bus drivers and aides.

If you, or someone you know, is interested in a part-time job that “pays well,” you are encouraged to contact the school system’s transportation department. The phone number is 256-774-4613.

Currently, retired engineers, butchers, hairdressers, stay-at-home moms and dads, Realtors and pastors all work as drivers and aides for the system.

They logged 792,350 miles last year transporting about 5,000 students to school.

The school system will provide training for the CDL (Commercial Drivers’ License) test and state certification. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Drivers can work themselves toward expanded hours that could include benefits. Other positions are available as well in the Transportation Department.
