Traffic delayed on Hwy 72 westbound in Athens.

ATHENS, Ala. – Athens Police were on the scene of a fatal wreck on Hwy 72 westbound near Barnett & Swann Home Furnishings Tuesday afternoon.

Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson said a fatal wreck on happened between a truck and an 18 wheeler on the westbound lanes of Hwy 72 Tuesday afternoon near Line Rd.

David L. Priputen, 64, of Athens, was killed when his truck struck the rear of the 18 wheeler, Chief Johnson said.

The westbound lanes of Hwy 72 were blocked there until just after 6:30 p.m.
