Gurley, Ala. (WHNT) Madison County running back Gabe Ozio is the Tigers quiet leader in the locker room. Put a helmet on the senior though, and he transforms into a violent runner who is hoping you try and get in the way.
"I have some speed, but I like to get behind my pads and run into people," Ozio said during an early morning practice this week. His head coach Scott Peavey agrees. "If he needs to be violent, he can run violently. He has great speed so once he gets a seam he can get through it in a hurry."
Ozio has been torching defenses all season long. last week against Fairview, the senior rushed for three touchdowns and returned a kick for another score. Recently, Madison County's captains got together and spoke about what they each need to bring to the huddle. Ozio shows leadership more by playing hard and setting a tone on offense.
"We talked about what our role is as captains, and I'm not as vocal as some others on our team but I lead by example by how I play and practice."
Ozio has yet to receive a college scholarship offer but several programs around Alabama have showed interest. For now, he's just focused on a home game against Douglas Friday night.
