Highway 53 reopens after serious wreck involving semi and SUV

MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – Alabama State Troopers say a woman was rushed to the hospital after a wreck Wednesday evening. The crash involving a semi truck and an SUV happened just after 7 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 53 and Old Railroad Bed Road.

Investigators say the semi truck was traveling south on Highway 53, the woman in the SUV was driving in the opposite direction on Old Railroad Bed Road.

Authorities on the scene say the woman was badly injured, but did not have a specific condition. Troopers say the driver of the semi truck was not hurt.

It took about three hours for crews to investigate the crash and clear the scene.
