LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. – An Alabama State Trooper has turned himself in to Florence Police after domestic violence charges were brought against him.

According to Florence Police, 41-year-old Billy James Slappey has been charged with domestic violence/criminal mischief and domestic violence/harassment, both misdemeanor charges.

Investigators say a female reported an incident last week to One Place of the Shoals, a domestic violence agency operated by the Lauderdale County District Attorney’s office.

A city magistrate reviewed evidence and interviews and issued a warrant for Slappey’s arrest.

Slappey has been released on a $2,000 bond.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency says Trooper Slappey has been placed on mandatory leave pending the investigation.
