HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – From a big announcement made by NASA, to a motion picture due to hit the big screen, the hopeful trip to Mars is the talk of the region. With Huntsville being so space-centric, the more that comes out about Mars, the more the city benefits.

“People that aren’t from the area sometimes don’t realize what a strong impact the space program has had at Huntsville,” said Jennifer Moore, Vice President of Tourism for the Huntsville-Madison County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.

Now, eyes are on Huntsville and that could mean big things for the community, as people from near and far come to find out what all the hype is about.

“Well, even last night with the eclipse, it’s always interesting to see there’s so much out there and we still need to learn about and experience. And to be on the cutting edge all the time is just an exciting thing for the community,” said Moore.

Especially because with one trip, you can see what’s taken place since the beginning of space travel, at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center.

“And then you can go to the Marshall Space Flight Center and do the bus tour and see what’s happening in the future, so then you can see what the journey to Mars will entail,” said Moore.

Those at the Huntsville-Madison County Convention and Visitors Bureau say the turnout of new visitors has been good, and they expect to see more looking for an as up-close-and-personal experience as possible.

“Hopefully we can experience that ourselves one day, but the closest thing to that right now is to be able to go to the space center and be able to experience space up close,” said Moore.

The Convention and Visitor’s Bureau is hosting various things throughout the next two weeks, promoting the journey to Mars. For more information, click here.
