HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The sentencing hearing is scheduled for this afternoon in the case of Olusola Kuponiyi. A jury convicted him for the attempted murder of Huntsville Police Officer Jonathan Sallis.

Kuponiyi was accused of stabbing Sallis, then spraying him with pepper spray during a disturbance call in August of 2013. He took the stand during his trial and testified that he feared for his life while pinned to the ground. But prosecutors say his statements didn’t match up with his injuries.

The jury deliberated on the case for three days before reaching their decision to convict Kuponiyi of attempted murder.

The sentencing hearing is scheduled for 1:30 this afternoon. Kuponiyi faces the possibility of a life sentence.
