UPDATE: Two dead, one arrested in Lauderdale County shooting
STEWARTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Two people are dead and another in custody following a mid-morning shoot-out in Lauderdale County Friday.
Just before 9am, deputies responded to a shooting at a home on Lauderdale CR-87 in the Stewartsville community.
Inside the home, 50-year-old Michael Nicholas Linville and 25-year-old Margurite Victoria Garcia were found shot.
“We don’t know a whole lot at this time. We do know that the residence has been shot into numerous times,” stated Lt. Brad Potts with the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department.
Linville was airlifted from the scene to Huntsville Hospital where he later died from his injuries, while Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said a neighbor spotted a vehicle leaving the home after hearing multiple gunshots.
“There was a maroon vehicle seen leaving this residence,” explained Potts. “I’m not going to give specifics on it at this point, but there was a maroon vehicle seen leaving.”
Two hours after the shooting, the vehicle thought to be involved was located about a mile from the scene on Lauderdale CR-74.
The driver of the suspect vehicle, 28-year-old Steven Chase Stanfield, had been taken to ECM Hospital by personal vehicle with a gun shot wound.
Authorities said one of the victims may have returned gun fire.
“It appears they were targeted for a specific reason,” Potts said. “We have made several calls out to this residence in the past month for different incidents.”
Prosecutors said Stanfield has been charged with two counts of capital murder.
He’s been booked into the Lauderdale County Detention Center and is being held without bail at this time.
