New Market, Ala. (WHNT) As the list of schools to offer Buckhorn Linebacker Will Ignont grows, his focus remains the same. Ignont is the state's top recruit for the class of 2017 and right now has his choice of 16 division one football programs to play for. "Mississippi State, Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Nebraska, Penn State," Ignont paused to think of the others while talking to WHNT News 19's Chase Horn. "Southern Miss, Troy, Charlotte, UCLA."

South Carolina jumped on board earlier this week, calling Ignont at 7:00 a.m. on September 1st. The first official day schools could directly contact players from the class of 2017. Interestingly enough, Ignont didn't even know football was his sport until a few years ago.

"Basketball is my first love, I didn't even like football. I just played cause everyone told me I was big and should play. I've always loved basketball, then I remember my freshman year Coach O'Conner telling me if I put in the work I could have offers Sophomore year."

Obviously David O'Connor knew what he was talking about. He's also been impressed with Ignont's ability to focus on the present while obviously being excited about his future.

"The only time he considers all of that stuff is Saturday afternoon and Saturday morning," O'Connor said. "Saturday is his college day, he worries about college football. The other 6 days he worries about high school football and how the bucks are doing."

Which means Ignont is focused squarely on Friday night's matchup with Hazel Green.
