ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) - Just two years ago the Athens football team made it three rounds deep in the playoffs, the Golden Eagles followed that year up with a combined two win effort in 2014.  Some of that can be contributed to the tough 6-a Region 8 the team plays in, "Playoff level football every week.  We had a good team last year, it just didn't show up much in the win column."  Head Coach Allen Creasy told WHNT's Chase Horn.   "It's a challenge and that's one of the things we try to teach, is to overcome obstacles."

Athens plans to overcome the obstacles by becoming a tougher team, something that's easy to say, but the players have a game plan.  "You just come out here and grind.  You go at it, at it and at it again.  It just builds up, repetitiveness and it carries over Friday nights." Senior Lineman Jacob Johnston said.

Athens opens the season August 21st at Lee.
