HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Students are getting back to school, and community leaders and kids alike took the chance to celebrate that this weekend.

Madison County Commissioner Phil Riddick sponsored the 5th annual Education Celebration at Grissom High School on Saturday morning.  They had games and inflatables and demonstrations, but they also collected donations for schools.

Each of the schools in the Grissom feeder district had booths with PTA and school administration present, as well as student groups who showcased their specialty teams.

Many people expressed quite a bit of optimism at the beginning of the school year.

"We're making a lot of headway," said Superintendent Casey Wardynski.  "A lot of good things are happening in our school system, our city, we got a great mayor, very positive things happening at city planning, and the school system is falling into place too."
