FLORENCE, Ala. - Florence Police are looking into a gunshot fired at Cox Creek Park over the weekend. Officers were called to the park because of a fight. But when they got there, all involved in the fight were gone.

They also received a call about a gunshot being fired in the area, but found no victim in the area or at any of the local hospitals.

A person, not involved in the fight, shot video of the incident and posted it to Facebook.

Investigators want to stress, no one was shot during this incident.

"We've now begun investigating and trying to determine who those individuals were," explained Sgt. Brad Holmes with Florence Police Department. "The biggest concern here is that there were children that were playing in the park, and they're safety was put at risk."

They continue to investigate, though, as discharging a firearm in the city limits is against the law in Florence. They hope to identify the person responsible.

"Fortunately for our community this is an isolated event," Holmes said. "The video appears to indicate that the individuals involved knew each other, so we don't believe that this was a random act. The real message that's out there is that there's a time and a place for having arguments, firearms being involved in arguments is just bad all the way around."

In a release today, the Florence Police Department calls this incident "unacceptable and reckless behavior that put lives at risk." Investigators hope anyone with information on this incident will contact them.
