METAIRIE, La. (AP)– The Coast Guard is continuing the search for an Alabama man who jumped off the southbound Lake Pontchartrain Causeway on Thursday night.

The man has been identified as 28-year-old Darryl Clinton Davis Jr. of Foley, Alabama.

The Coast Guard continued the search Saturday.

Authorities say Davis was apparently driving a pick-up truck, reported stolen from Foley, on the southbound side of the bridge around 10:30 p.m. when he ran into construction crews and a Causeway Police detail. Spotting them, Davis turned around and began driving north in the southbound lanes, against the direction of traffic, pursued by police.

After a chase, Davis’ truck grated against the guardrails and he came to a stop. Officials say he then got out of the truck and jumped over the side into choppy waters.
