UPDATE: Standoff resolved peacefully in New Hope

NEW HOPE, Ala. – The Madison County Sheriff’s Office says a standoff in New Hope is over.  It was resolved peacefully around 3:45 p.m.

There was a heavy presence of law enforcement on Tina Lane, off Low Gap Road in New Hope.  Deputies were trying to negotiate with a man threatening suicide.  They were able to talk the man into surrendering without injuring anyone.  He was led out in handcuffs to be checked by paramedics.

People on Tina Lane were urged to stay in their homes while the situation was resolved.

John Southerland, Director of Communications for Madison County Schools, said buses were routed away from the area to keep students safe.
