SCOTTSBORO, Ala. - Faith, passion and a great deal of talent has driven one Scottsboro teen to a life-changing opportunity. A compelling ballad has changed her life.

Caroline Massey, 17, submitted a 30 second voice recording of a song  she sings in her church praise band to the southern Christian rock band Consumed by Fire in hopes of being chosen to write and record a song in studio with the band.

The band selected her for the band's Academy of Dreamers program. "I was shocked beyond belief," said Massey.

The mission of the Academy of Dreamers program is to help starving children in Africa as well as to provide the opportunity for aspiring singers/songwriters to work with Nashville’s recording studios, studio musicians, producers and engineers and record a song of their own.

The band  invited Massey to come to the House of Blues Studio D   in Nashville to record an original song of her own.  But, she faced another challenge.  She had to get 20 sponsors for 20 children in Kenya in exchange for the band funding her recording opportunity.  Caroline succeeded in obtaining the sponsorships from her friends and family. The experience has further fueled Caroline's passion to serve.  She said, it's been great "Being able to be a missionary and share my story with all these other people."

The whole experience came full circle when, Massey and her father, Tim, co-wrote a song called 'Oh the Cross.'  It was then recorded at the studio and produced by Jordan and Caleb Ward from Consumed by Fire as well as Brian Bunn, guitarist for Third Day.  Tim Massey described the experience as "surreal" being able to see the inner workings of how a song is put together.

Caroline believes the whole thing has been divine intervention, "I think that God gave me my signing ability just so that I could do this opportunity perhaps."

The band will be holding a concert on Sunday, August 2, at 7p.m. at Massey's church, Scottsboro First United Methodist.  Caroline’s song will be performed and released on iTunes that night.

The concert  is part of a 23-day summer Consumed by Fire tour where selected musicians will be performing at each show or being spotlighted in their hometowns.

The concert will include a call to action for others to sponsor more children from Childfund.
