Huntsville man charged in woman’s murder; victim killed with hammer

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Huntsville Police have charged a man in a woman's fatal beating on Wednesday night.

The victim, Patrice Mondzell Lanier, 47, was killed with a hammer.  Lanier was from Huntsville.

Investigators say Anderson McCaulley, 45, is charged with murder.

The incident happened a little before midnight on East Gateway Drive near Memorial Parkway. Neighbors called police and HEMSI paramedics to an apartment complex on that street. They found the woman and took her to the hospital.

Police say they found Lanier lying on the ground and unresponsive in front of the apartment building. HEMSI took her to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police say Lanier and McCaulley knew each other and had a past relationship.

East Gateway Drive is off Hobbs Road, just east of South Memorial Parkway.
