Huntsville, Ala. (WHNT) - Late July is arguably the hottest time of year in north Alabama. The last thing most people want to do is begin training for a marathon in conditions like this, but it's actually the perfect time. North Alabama's biggest road race is 18 weeks away and anyone who has ever trained to run 26.2 miles knows every workout is important.

The trainers and running specialists at Fleet Feet in Huntsville are kicking off several programs this week starting with full marathon classes. Coach Christy Scott will eventually have to kick her motivation in to high gear, but for now is providing encouragement.

"A lot of people come into this and are scared because they are thinking in 18 weeks I have to run 26 miles. O my gosh," Scott said before talking to her class Tuesday. "I try to assure them we are doing this over 18 weeks, we have plenty of time, they are not going to be overwhelmed we are not going to give them more than they can handle."

Fleet Feet is also offering programs to help runners train for local 5K, 10K and half-marathon races. To learn more visit their website at
