MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Governor Robert Bentley announced a plan to arm the Alabama National Guard on his Twitter account Monday.

Governor Bentley said the plan involves “arming guardsmen involved in state active duty as well as the four National Guard recruiting location.”

He said the plan comes after a meeting with Maj. Gen. Perry Smith, who approved it.

More details about the plan are classified and will not be released, Bentley said.

This plan follows moves by at least six other states to arm service members following a deadly attack on a recruiting center and Naval operations support center in Chattanooga earlier this month.
