HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Huntsville Police Department is accepting applications for its next class of officers. It's looking for 40 qualified men and women to participate in its March 2016 Police Academy.

The department is doing things a little different this time. Those who complete and pass all phases of the hiring process in the next four months will be hired onto the force. They will be paid probationary police officer cadets before the Police Academy begins.

Those officers will then be reclassified after finishing the academy.

Candidates must be 21 years old by the start of the academy, hold a valid U.S. Driver's license, and have at least a high school diploma. The annual starting salary is $38,563.
