Volunteer firefighter rescued after vehicle lands in retention pond

DANVILLE, Ala. - A volunteer firefighter lost control of his vehicle this morning on Sharpley Road near S. Johnson Chapel Road. The vehicle ended up submerged in a nearby retention pond. It happened around 4:30 a.m.

Volunteer firefighters say the driver couldn't swim, so he climbed on top of his vehicle and waited to be rescued.

The driver of the vehicle is okay this morning after the rescue.

A dive team worked with a tow truck to pull the vehicle from the pond.
