Barry Whitton accused of intimidating a witness in Jackson County murder trial

JACKSON COUNTY, Ala. - Court documents show Barry Whitton, who is charged in the murder of his first wife, attempted to keep someone from testifying in the murder trial scheduled for September 9, 2015.

The charges, filed today, say the threat occurred on June 10, 2015. Dennis Whitton says Barry tried to threaten him into avoiding a summons to testify.

Whitton is currently in the Cullman County Jail awaiting trial.

Whitton has pleaded not guilty to the murder of his first wife, Michelle Whitton.  The 28-year-old  was reported missing on December 7, 1997.  Six weeks later, her body was found near the Powell area of DeKalb County.

Barry Whitton is accused of intentionally killing Michelle by striking her in the head and causing blunt-force trauma.

Whitton’s second wife, Kim Whitton, and her daughter, Haleigh Culwell, of Section disappeared in the summer of 2007.  Barry Whitton is also suspected in their disappearance but has not been charged.
