FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – Some noticeable changes have been made to the 2015 Spirit of Freedom celebration this Fourth of July weekend.

As rain fell on McFarland Park Friday, workers continued setting up tents and food trailers in preparation for the scheduled festivities.

Months of planning has gone into Saturday’s events, including where the fireworks show will be shoot from. In 2014 the show was land based, due to some scheduling conflicts with a barge company.

“The location turned out to be not so great for the people in the park. You couldn’t get a really good view,” Alison Stanfield with Florence-Lauderdale Tourism stated. “This year things are going back to normal. They have the barge, so the fireworks will be shot from the middle of the river and they will be in full view again.”

The next noticeable change will be with the music line-up. After the fireworks show there will not be an out-of-towner, big name headliner concert.

Stanfield said with all the recent focus on the Muscle Shoals music scene, organizers decided to keep the line-up local.

“We have so many different groups and acts in this area that people recognize. They have a huge local following, so they decided to really keep the event local,” Stanfield explained.

And after a lot of publicity in last year’s Independence Day celebration, there will no longer be a beer garden for attendees to visit.

The Spirit of Freedom celebration begins at 1 p.m. in McFarland Park and will end after the scheduled fireworks show at 9 p.m.

If attendees decide to bring a cooler into the park, Florence Police remind you they reserve the right to search them for alcoholic beverages.
