HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Police say a minor is facing charges for theft of a vehicle, with more charges pending because a baby was inside.

According to Captain Juan Joyner, Tuesday night police received a call to the Exxon gas station at the 6000 block of Pulaski Pike. A woman left her pickup truck running as she ran inside.

She told police that while inside, a man jumped in her vehicle and drove off. According to Joyner, she ran outside screaming to alert the man that her baby was inside.

Joyner says officers fanned out and located the baby girl in her child seat in the parking lot of a gas station on Pulaski Pike and Stringfield.  The child was reunited with her mother.

A while later, the vehicle was recovered at the dead end of Doak Drive, according to authorities. Police set up a perimeter and put K-9 units on the ground, but were unsuccessful.

Captain Joyner says the suspect may have told friends and family about the incident, because his mother contacted investigators to provide information on his identity and whereabouts.

He was located and arrested.  The suspect’s name and age are being withheld at this time because he is a minor.  However, Capt. Joyner says the juvenile faces charges for theft of property, with more charges possible.
