FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) - A small, family owned cafe and bakery in Florence is on a mission to feed the homeless and needy in the community.

Dana and Shaun Melton own Imagine That Cafe & Bakery. They started a feeding program, "Leave a Cup, Leave a Bowl."

"I think there's a time in everybody's life where we just need a smile and a good meal," said Dana.

She was inspired by a homeless man in the area who had begged her for money for a can of food.

"It just broke my heart," she said. "So, I just took his hand and I told him, I don't have any money, but I have this restaurant right here and I will be happy to feed you. That's how the program got started and I thought, I would love to be able to do this every day."

"I thought, what if we had a way for the community to pay it forward."
If you stop by Imagine That for breakfast or lunch, you can add the price of a cup of coffee or meal to your ticket. You can also drop donations into the fund at the checkout counter.
"It gives them not only a place to escape the heat or escape the cold, but it shows them that there are people out there that are willing to help them and to work with them. A little inspiration, a little hope goes a long way."
Imagine That Cafe & Bakery is at 320 N. Court Street in downtown Florence. It's next to Rosie's Mexican Cantina. They are open Tuesday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. On Thursday and Friday nights they are open for dinner from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Then they have brunch on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
They also deliver. Give them a call at (256) 349-5665. You can tag on funds for the feeding program that way as well.
