HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT)– WHNT News 19 has been aggressively tracking new information on the status of Huntsville attorney Barry Abston, recently arrested on drug charges.

Abston, a well-known area defense attorney, has been placed on Disability Inactive Status with the Alabama Bar Association.

Officials with the organization tell WHNT News 19 that Abston voluntarily requested this through his attorney last week. It means he cannot practice law at this time.

Abston’s counsel, Robert Tuten, had no comment for WHNT News 19 Tuesday.

Earlier this month, Abston was charged with possession of meth, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia after his arrest at the Economy Inn on University Drive. He is next scheduled to be in Madison County court in two weeks.
