COLBERT COUNTY, Ala. – The Colbert County Sheriff’s Department says a man has been charged with attempted murder after a teenager was shot in the area of Jarmon Way in Leighton Wednesday evening.

Friday, James Greene, 32, was arrested and charged with attempted murder and shooting into an occupied dwelling, according to the Colbert County Sheriff’s Office.

Colbert County Sheriff Frank Williamson said a fight between the victim and another teenager on Jarmon Way drew a crowd of spectators Wednesday evening. Greene, the victim’s father, was on the scene with a gun, holding the crowd at bay so the teens could fight, Sheriff Williamson said.

A third teenager entered the crowd with a gun in an attempt to defend the fighting teenagers, Sheriff Williamson said. That’s when shots were fired, one of which struck the 14-year-old victim in the neck.

Sheriff Williamson said it’s unclear who fired the shot that struck the victim.

The teen who attempted to defend the fighting teenagers was questioned and released.

As of Friday afternoon, the victim was listed in critical but stable condition. His identity has not been released.
