DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) – Residents living on 3rd through 8th Avenues southwest are meeting with representatives of Decatur Police, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and other city departments at Now Faith Church of Jesus Christ to demand better protection and a clean neighborhood.

It follows a weekend of random robberies, shootings and two murders near their homes.

Doris Baker and Rhonda Wilson helped organize the meeting Thursday night at 6:00 p.m.

They want heightened police presence and unsightly and unsafe landscaping cleaned up to make their neighborhood safer.

They report escalating violent crimes, nuisance crimes, and unkempt properties.
