DOUGLAS, Ala. (WHNT) — The Marshall County town of Douglas is doing some cleaning this weekend.

“We have our second annual Douglas community-wide clean up this weekend, today and tomorrow,” Mayor Corey Hill says.

The Town and County Commission got a dumpster for the two days and the goal is by Sunday it’ll be full. “Folks can bring anything they want to with a few exceptions,” Mayor Hill says, “Clean up around their property, clean up around town.”

The event is running Friday and Saturday. Last year, it was a success. “Last year was our first time to do this and the dumpster was overflowing,” Mayor Hill says, “We had a great success and we decided to make it an annual event.”

You can bring pretty much anything, with a few exceptions. “We don’t like to put tires, batteries, paint, those kind of things, and household garbage is not allowed.”

Other things like wood, building products, old furniture, or items of that nature can be tossed.

Residents can drop off unwanted items in the dumpster in front of town hall, 24 hours a day, through Saturday night.
