UPDATE: Power restored in Athens after early morning outage

ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) –  Crews with Athens Utilities have restored power following a Monday morning outage.

The outage impacted residents on the west side of both the city of Athens and Limestone County.

A problem with equipment designed to protect against lightning apparently caused a malfunction at the Athens primary substation about 5 a.m.

All power was restored by about 7 a.m.
