HUNTSVILLE, Ala (WHNT) - University Drive and Jordan Lane is one the most dangerous intersections in the state of Alabama -- and it made the short list of hot spot locations where Huntsville Police will have increased patrol for a campaign this month.

"We're moving into our warmer summer months, a lot more people on the roadway, a lot more alcohol usage throughout these months," said Lieutenant Jeffrey Rice, special operations commander with Huntsville Police (HPD).

All agencies are part of the campaign, paid for by the North Alabama Traffic Safety Office.

Checkpoints or saturation patrols will be placed around the city throughout the month. At the checkpoints, drivers will be asked for their driver's license, proof of insurance, and registration.

"The checkpoints are not necessarily DUI checkpoints, they're safety checkpoints," said Lt. Rice.

The list released by HPD was composed of the following roads:

  • Interstate 565
  • University Drive (U.S. Highway 72)
  • Memorial Parkway (U.S. Highway 231)
  • Bailey Cove Road
  • Weatherly Road
  • Drake Avenue
  • California Street
  • Sparkman Drive
  • Pulaski Pike
  • Jordan Lane (Alabama Highway 53)
  • Moores Mill Road
