HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT)- Panoply event coordinators are paying close attention to this weekends forecast. They have weather plans in place and are coordinating with other organizations just in case they have to make the decision to close things down. Rain or shine, the show must go on. They will only cancel the event if the park closes.
Joanna White is the Art Council marketing manager and she told us, "Well if we have severe weather anytime during the festival we make announcements through our Facebook page and of our website and festival announcements in the park... we do have a severe weather plan that says if we have a severe thunderstorm warning, a tornado watch, or tornado warning the park is closed."
Those who attend Panoply every year are used to dealing with the rain. Joanna says they embrace it, "Well just remember it is in a park so if your going to come out and we do have rain but it is not severe we will be open wear your rain boots um umbrellas are welcome and just prepare to be out in the weather. It's actually kind of fun to stomp around Big Spring Park in the rain."
Vendors travel from all over the United States to attend Panoply. Many of the vendor are always prepared for the rain. Joanna Gilbert traveled from Georgia to sell her pottery. They have weather preparation down to an art. Joanna said, "We have two tents and they are full of our elegant functional pottery and so we put up this roof part, well, kind of ceiling and it is a gutter and if the rain is really pouring the water just washes down... and it is dry inside the tent."
If you are attending Panoply remember that your ticket is for the whole weekend so if you get rained out one day you can still head back the next day.
