(WHNT) – One of the biggest names in the history of the music industry was laid to rest Tuesday.

A memorial service was held in Baker, Louisiana for Percy Sledge.  He died earlier this month at the age of 74.

The Alabama native is best known for the hit song “When a Man loves a Woman.” The 1966 recording was the first for Sledge. The song would go on to hit number one later that year and continues to be one of music’s most treasured tunes.

Sledge was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005.
