Huntsville woman dies in canoe accident in Sipsey River

WINSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – A Huntsville woman drowned Saturday afternoon when her canoe overturned on the Sipsey River in the Bankhead National Forest near Double Springs.

Lori Williams Turner, 54, was in the canoe that overturned about 3 p.m.  She was pinned against a tree that had fallen across the water and drowned.  Turner died at the scene.

Two other people were in the canoe but got to safety.  They were treated at a local hospital.

Alabama State Troopers assigned to Marine Patrol are investigating further.
